Samsung Electronics to Transform Myeongdong with Massive LED Signage in Seoul, South Korea

Samsung Electronics is set to revolutionize Seoul's iconic Myeongdong district with the installation of a colossal LED signage on the exterior of Shinsegae Department Store's main branch in South Korea. The project, slated for completion in November, will cover an impressive 1,285 square meters, equivalent to the size of three basketball courts.

This ambitious undertaking is part of Seoul's initiative to create a "Korean Times Square" in the Myeongdong Tourist Special Zone, one of the newly designated 'Free OOH Advertising Free Display Zones'. The relaxed regulations in these areas allow for more creative and expansive advertising displays, paving the way for a dramatic transformation of the urban landscape.

Samsung's LED signage boasts cutting-edge technology, including a 7,680Hz refresh rate that minimizes flicker and moiré effects when captured on camera. The display also supports HDR10+, ensuring vibrant and crisp image quality that will captivate viewers.

The installation meets rigorous industry standards, including UL 48 and UL 746C, and has obtained IP66 certification for waterproof and dustproof capabilities. This ensures the signage can withstand various weather conditions and maintain its performance over time.

Once operational, the LED signage will showcase a mix of department store-themed content, brand advertisements, and the annual Christmas media facade that Shinsegae Department Store is known for. The enhanced visual experience is expected to attract both local and international visitors, contributing to Myeongdong's appeal as a premier tourist destination.

This project follows Samsung's successful installation of a high-resolution LED signage at COEX SM Town, further cementing the company's position as a leader in OOH advertising technology. As Myeongdong transforms into a dazzling media hub, it joins the ranks of global landmarks like Times Square, promising to redefine Seoul's nighttime skyline and boost its status as a world-class metropolis.
